When Makana returned home to Hawaii after serving active duty in the Army for eight years, she found herself in a dilemma. She had seen many things during her tours and she didn’t fully realize how different life would be at home. She had trouble focusing on the task at hand, which was to find work and a home and restart her former life.
Then things got worse. She was out of work for over 2 years, like many other people. The cost of living was high, and she had to leave her apartment. Things began to spiral.
Then she contacted Soldier Care. Through our programs we helped her with dealing with the transition and we helped her to get a new home.
As we like to say around here, it’s serves her right, because she served us.
