U.S. Army Veteran Cpt. Devanie Shaw & Gold Star Mother Susan Scialdo visit OSC

At the Operation Soldier Care packing session on Saturday, November 2, 2013 we had two very special guests.

U.S. Army Veteran Cpt. Devanie Shaw stopped by to thank OSC volunteers personally for supporting her during her deployment from December 2008 to July 2009.  Devanie served as an Intelligence Officer in Iraq from 2008 – 2009.

As an OSC thank you to Devanie for her service we presented her with a special military service coin and a bouquet of flowers, in addition to a Prayer Shawl from the FBCN Prayer Shawl Ministry. The prayer shawl was handmade to bring comfort to her as her husband now serves in Afghanistan. Devanie expressed to the group, “It was definitely much easier for me when I was deployed than it is now being at home worrying about my husband and wondering what’s going on.”  She said she has a new appreciation for the families who have loved ones deployed.

American Gold Star Mother Susan Scialdo of Naples, FL also joined us to help out with our packing session. Susan is the very proud mother of Fallen Hero U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Marc A. Scialdo.  Marc was killed on March 11, 2013 when a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter he was traveling in crashed in Afghanistan.

Operation Soldier Care supported Marc during his first deployment to Iraq. Care packages were shipped from November 2006 to August 2007.

Susan expressed her gratitude to volunteers for supporting her son and for everyone’s dedication to helping the troops over the years. We honored Susan with a dozen yellow roses and joined in prayer for her, the Scialdo family, and all the American Gold Star Mother’s and their families.

This truly was a special day with two very special guests!

First Baptist Church of Naples – Prayer Shawl Ministry

Dear Joel and Joan

What a pleasant surprise to recieve such a beautiful shawl. My thanks go to you and your wonderful ministry. A special thanks to Rosemarie Krempler who created my lovely red, white and blue shawl.

Obviously, it is a team effort because there are so many names involved. Please give my thanks to all, including Tony, of course. Cannot imagine how much your ministry “up lifts” those wonderful and brave service people.

So appreciative Grandmother of Kyle,

A Prayer Shawl Thank You from Linda Wills

First Baptist Church of Naples – Prayer Shawl Ministry

Dear Joel and Joan,

I wanted to thank you so much the the prayer shawl you sent to me. I truly appreciate the gift, your heart to cover our family and my son in prayer as he is deployed, and the ministry of care packages to those deployed. I will use the prayer shawl during my devotion prayer time. It is a blessing to know others support and care about our nation’s soldiers through prayer. Receiving salvation through Jesus Christ is so critical for all of us, but especially for those in areas of conflict around the world. May your prayers and gifts touch hearts and bring multitudes to Christ, an abundant harvest. [The Harvest is plenty, the workers are few. Luke 10:2…] Thank you again for all you do as laborers. May God bless you and all those involved in this ministry.

With sincere gratitude,

Linda Wills
