A Thank You from Richard Scammon in Afghanistan

We cannot thank you enough for your overwhelming support, prayers, and packages. It is most definitely a happy day when the mail bird (helicopter carrying mail) arrives and one of the crates is full with Soldier Care packages. It takes hours to disperse their contents throughout our locations to our Soldiers who are always overwhelmed with Joy to receive them. We thank God for you all and hope you all have a safe and blessed Christmas and Holiday Season.

We are starting to wind things down here and have been conducting multifaceted operations. We are continuing to advise the Afghan Army as they have officially taken the lead in combat operations as well draw down our footprint while sending equipment and Soldiers home. Our job here is not yet done but we are close and we thank the Lord every day we are getting closer to closing this chapter in history.

For many of us this is our first deployment with readily accessible hot showers, laundry capabilities, and hot food. We are able to take hot showers twice a week, do laundry once a week, and at a minimum we are getting two hot meals while not on patrol with our counterparts.

Again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all of your prayers and support. Many times, especially in the past, it’s all we had to keep us ticking!

For the Patriot Soldiers!

Richard Scammon
